Oh you are such a pretty girl.

Black student ceremony?

Urgh. I guess that's why I don't want to live and raise my children in the states or South Africa. No frigging segregation.

But congrats on your award :)

Nkosazana,

Thanks. :-)

LOL, it's not segregated. I went to the regular ceremonies too. But there are Black, Native American, Asian, and Latino ceremonies because all of these groups have been historically denied admission/underrepresented in higher education. The first Black student graduated from my uni 101 years after it was founded, and we're only 2% of the student body now, so it's supposed to be encouraging/uplifting.

I guess so... We had something similar at the university that i studied at one year in SA. I couldn't afford to study there more than one year though so that's why I moved to Sweden.

Oh the whites did not like that they had to share space with the few of us :)

But I still don't like it. I rather have my children be one just a normal student and don't have to rely on AA and stuff like that to get in (I got AA to get in , but they did not think to give me a scholarship that would last me more than a year). I like it that they only go on grades here in Sweden so there's no excuse at all on not getting a higher education since it's "free" as well :)

Congratulations on your graduation. I respect anyone who has the chutzpah to actually finish college...even with dismal job prospects......and maybe even a large student debt.

You're beautiful and I love the way you dressed for the ceremony! (It makes you look super serious, lol).

Your mom looks happy and Zek looks confused for some reason ;)

Serpentus,

My job prospects haven't really been dismal, but that has to do with personal circumstances.

Mira,

Thanks! They said "business formal", but some people looked like they were ready to go on a picnic--maybe it's true that (some) college students can't dress.

Maybe Z was squinting in the light?

Congrats! You and Z (and mom) look good. Zek looks different in that photo... maybe his hair looks lighter.

And I thought you straightened your hair?

Alee,

Thanks! I didn't get my hair straightened until we got back to my parents' house, after graduation. That hat was so ill-fitting; it would've been more convenient to get it done before then, but I didn't think about that, and I didn't get into town early enough.
